The chill is back …

Yep, 30 degrees this morning.  Nice little nip in the air made for a vigorous run.  I was up a bit earlier today so that I could be back by 6:15.  Left the house at 4:50 and ran my 10 mile loop (10.5 to be precise).  I have not run in cold weather since my return to running.  It’s nice.  I forgot how much I liked it.  I am not sure, though, how much I will enjoy the really frozen days we get here or when the snow makes sidewalks and paths unpassable.   Anyone got any running loops in the Boston area for winter running?  Is anybody out there reading my drivel?  Not yet, eh?

I have recoverd nicely from Cape Cod and am motivated to start my new training program for Boston 2007.  I re-read the Hadd excerpt on running and also looked over Pfitzinger’s Advanced Marathoning and will try to incorporate the two for my next 18 week phase – which begins on December 4.  Until then, I plan on keeping the mileage at 50-60 and HR 140-145.  This Thursday I plan on running the Phillip J. Weihn 5th Annual Turkey Chase 5K.  My last 5k was back on May 21 where I ran 20:52.  I think I was about 17 pounds heavier then.  I hope being lighter and having done 5 more months of training will enable me to run faster then 20:52.  I will be bummed if I don’t run under 20:00.  I’ll let you know how the race turns out.

Anyway, the run today felt easy and light.  I probably needed the day off yesterday but those old juices are starting to flow and I need to remind myself that recovery is as important as working hard.

10.5 miles/1:24:48
